Artemis was not only the goddess of the moon, hunt, and the wilderness, but also the protectoress in childbirth.   Daughter of Zeus and twin to Apollo, she was respected for her fiercely independent nature, and represented carrying bow and arrow, embodying both her power and strength. Artemis’ presence, was subsequently regarded as both awe-inspiring and empowering.
